What iPad Should You Really Buy

Buying an iPad should be easy. You just buy what’s new, right? Moreover, a growing number of older iPads are floating around on the Amazon of the world. Since all of these devices generally look the same, it is important to know what you are buying and what you have to pay for it. This guide covers the best iPads currently available, the important differences between every iPad model and every old iPad that exists, including the ones you shouldn’t buy at any price.

Apple iPad mini (Wi-Fi, 64GB)

Price $384

The new A12 chip makes this iPad so fast and smooth and is frankly more powerful than you will ever need in your daily use of this product. I think it is great that this iPad has a fully laminated display, which makes reading much better and of course eliminates the annoying air gap on the budget iPad 5th and 6th generation. Another great feature of this iPad is the True Tone screen that adjusts the screen to the lighting conditions of the room you are in. This makes it much easier for your eyes when you use the iPad and the effects are in my opinion the most remarkable reading. The battery runtime on this iPad is excellent and the A12 chip is grateful for that, because it is very efficient, although of course your mileage varies depending on usage and other settings. The mini is definitely in a strange market because it has the same specifications as the new iPad Air, only in a much smaller form factor, so I would definitely recommend the mini if   you have an older iPad and want to upgrade without the bank and don’t mind the smaller form factor or even prefer your iPads in a more portable form. Even if you want to buy an iPad for the first time and you don’t really want a budget model, but at the same time you don’t want to spend the money needed to get a pro model, then the mini 5 might be something for you. I am in the camp of people who prefer this smaller shape because it is easier to port around and if you read books about it, it will not wear out your arm like the larger models. The mini definitely has a viable market, even in 2019, and I believe it’s worth looking at if you’re curious about how an iPad of this size compares to the much larger versions that Apple sells

Apple Ipad Air (10.5-Inch, Wi-Fi, 256GB)

Price $599

You miss a lot of the features that the iPad Pro 2017 had (because this body is almost identical to the iPad Pro 2017), including the additional two top speakers and the Pro Motion, but with the A12 chip in this iPad, your device is fair future-proof and can expect a few years of iOS support. All in all, I think this is a great device that is reasonably priced for those who don’t want to sell an ark and a leg for the newer 2018 iPad Pros. Would recommend getting a case as soon as possible if you plan to take the plunge.

Support for Apple Pencil is also a nice welcome. Only the 1st generation works, which is a shame, but the 2nd generation cannot physically work with this model. Apple is probably cleaning their warehouse while they are trying to sell their older products. Anyway, the 1st generation Apple Pencil still holds its ground and works magically on this iPad.

If you want an iPad that can work as a Pro device, but is willing to sacrifice a few functions, I would highly recommend this iPad. Perfect midrange iPad for most consumers.

This new iPad 11 compared to the 10.5 is better in every way. Face probably saved me the most time. It’s just much more efficient and effective for me (no more messing around with my thumb). The processor and graphic display are much spicier than the previous version and there is no delay in everything I do. The speakers on this iPad are louder and clearer, so I use this to watch videos and listen to music in my hotel room. The iPad 11 is very lightweight and even with the smart keyboard it is the lightest tablet I have used. The new Smart Keyboard and the smart connector are much better than the previous version because this new version protects the back. The new Apple Pencil 2 also works very well and the new charging on the side of the iPad versus via the lightning connector on the previous model is much better.

The good

  • Powerful and spicy performance
  • Face ID is more efficient and effective than finger ID
  • Speakers are louder and sharper
  • Lightweight
  • High resolution screen
  • Great for traveling

  • New Apple Pencil 2 is better than the previous generation because you charge on the side of the iPad
  • USB C is more universal of a connector
  • Beautiful design
  • LTE works well
